The Queen Photographers
Greenville, SC Headshot Swap

Well, I have returned from WPPI in Vegas with so much more knowledge about myself and my craft, but I have to say, I am SO happy to be home!!

BUTTT, before I recap my trip (I’ll be posting about it later this week!), I want to show off The Queen Photographers and the recent headshot swap I attended with them in Greenville, South Carolina. Since my stylist, Alex Galloway from Browning Studio, had an opening to color my hair on the same day the Queens were meeting up, it worked out perfectly for me to join their event for a few hours!

If you’re wondering what The Queen Photographers are or what that means, then GOOD! I’m happy to introduce this INCREDIBLE community of women to you today!

As their website says, “The Queen Photographers organized in 2015 shortly after a Brown Girl With a Camera portfolio building experience in Greenville, SC. Queen Photographers CoFounders, Latoya Dixon Smith & Sierra Collins helped BGWAC organize, host, and style a shoot with 10 photographers, along with a make up artist. Realizing the magic and magnitude of an event Latoya & Sierra were moved to continue developing the creative space for women of color photographers in South Carolina.  Thus was the birth of The Queen Photographers of South Carolina (QPSC). Through persistent community-building and authentic local business partnerships the QPSC began to grow and then expanded into North Carolina and Georgia, and then became known as The Queen Photographers.”

Sounds amazing, right? Well, this group of women is!! I was able to meet up with their Greenville chapter the week before I left for Vegas to swap some headshots and do a little networking. We had an amazing time as a group exploring Falls Park on the Reedy in downtown Greenville swapping headshots of each other and enjoyed a good meal with a few craft beers and margaritas afterwards. I drove home from our meet up with a full heart and a smile on my face, because these women are truly amazing. Each of them are breaking glass ceilings in our industry, not only as women but as women of color.

If you’re a woman of color and photographer looking for a safe space to be creative and unapologetically black (HOLLLAAA!!), then The Queen Photographers is the place for you!

AND, if you’re in the wedding industry or a creative professional looking to support women of color and this incredible organization, you can apply to join their collaborative group, too! You can find more information about becoming a member HERE, and you can find out more about these queens as a whole on their blog right HERE.

Now, enough with the words, let me show you some beautiful ladies who are a part of this inspiring group! I hope you enjoy these images from The Queen Photographers’ Greenville, South Carolina headshot swap!

Happy Tuesday, friends!! Be sure to show your support for these amazing women of color by either joining the collaborative group or joining the group yourself if you are a photographer and woman of color!!

Jess

cheers
