The Knot’s Regional Spring/Summer 2019 Master Story Feature
An Unforgettable Brunch Bash

While I know I start each of my blog posts telling you that I’m excited to share whatever it is I am blogging about that day, this one is really something special. Today I am excited to reveal to you The Knot’s regional spring/summer 2019 master story feature. You may be asking yourself, “Why is Jessica telling us about the Knot’s regional issue master story right now?” Well, it is because I photographed the editorial that was selected as this year’s regional spring/summer master story feature!

The Knot’s Regional Spring/Summer 2019 Master Story

The Knot’s 2019 Spring/Summer regional issues all feature an editorial on new places to wed, effortless dresses, and an unforgettable brunch bash. That ‘unforgettable branch bash’ is a styled shoot that I photographed in March of 2018 while in New York City. So, as you can imagine, this post has been a long time coming!

Traveled to NYC to photograph this Editorial

I traveled up to New York City in March 2018 to visit a few friends, see the city, and to photograph a styled shoot with my sweet friend Leah at Color Pop Events. We tossed around a few ideas for our shoot together leading up to my trip, but when Leah asked if I would be willing to photograph a brunch themed wedding at Kellogg’s is new New York City location, I immediately loved the idea.

Leah, in all of her fabulousness, planned every little piece of the shoot flawlessly. All I had to do was show up and photograph it in the best way possible. (No big deal, right?) We started shooting at 6:00am on a Saturday morning in March in NYC at Kellogg’s new event space location, Kellogg’s NYC, and I remember thinking to myself that nothing else in the entire world could ever motivate me to be up at such an ungodly hour like a gorgeous editorial like this one.

The Wait

I absolutely loved photographing this editorial for so many reasons, and I am so thankful Leah allowed me to get creative with my images and trusted my vision. She trusted me with the content she had arranged and planned, and I am so thankful she did. I was able to get creative, work quickly, and keep a solid vision of how I wanted to the shoot to look in the images at the forefront of my mind.

A few weeks after I delivered the images to Leah she sent them to an editor at The Knot, and we began to wait. I knew our submission gallery and the shoot were flawless, and I felt very confident that we were going to receive an answer for a small feature in The Knot New York or something along those lines. But, never did I imagine that we would we would receive the opportunity that we did! Being selected as The Knot’s regional spring/summer 2019 master story feature is without a doubt the biggest moment of my career to date. This selection is only made twice a year by editors at The Knot and is such an extreme honor. I cannot believe that on newsstands all across the nation people are picking up their local regional copy of The Knot and finding my work within.

I am so SO proud of all the hard work of each of the vendors involved in the shoot, Leah‘s dedication to planning such a flawless editorial, and these images. I do not think I can put into words how humbling it is for me to know that the quality of my work speaks for itself and speaks loudly in a room of some of the wedding industry’s top editors and eyes. It doesn’t feel real, I’ll be honest with you. Truly!

From Leah, owner of Color Pop Events

‘The moment I walked into Kellogg’s NYC, I just felt happy. From all of the color to the fun cereal-themed knick knacks to the self-serve cereal bar, it really is such a magical place. When I found out that they rented out the space for private events, I immediately wanted to book a wedding there. Since they hadn’t done one there before, I figured why not plan a styled shoot so that we could all have some wedding images in the space? And of course it had to be a brunch wedding! I planned a brunch wedding a couple of years ago and I LOVED it. It was so much fun. There’s a different energy to the day when a wedding is happening earlier in the day, plus you get to serve brunch food. I was a big supporter of the brunch wedding well before Meghan and Harry made it popular.

I wanted the color palette for the shoot to be mostly primary in order to complement the existing colors of the Kellogg’s space. I knew that red, yellow, pink and turquoise would interact really nicely with the existing decor. I also wanted to keep things pretty clean and simple, again so that it didn’t look too busy in comparison with the space.

So many sweet Details & Additions

It’s hard to pick my favorite details from the shoot because there were just SO many. I loved the clean lines and bold colors on the wedding cake by Hudson Cakery, which was brought to life even more by adding a Treat House donut-shaped Rice Krispie treat on top. Alex from Suitesmith blew me away with all of the paper goods, like she always does. She drew the toucan and tiger illustration that repeated across the back of the invitation herself. So creative! Anne from Blade Floral and Event Designs came up with a clever and fresh idea for the ceremony of doing florals on two different sized metal stands rather than a traditional arch or pilar arrangements. And the couple got “married” under the disco bowl! I would be remiss if I didn’t also shout out the amazing bacon and egg cookies by Cookies for a Cause NYC! And the breakfast in bed favors were so cute. I told you I couldn’t pick just one favorite!

One of my favorite shots that Jessica Hunt Photography captured has to be the dress on the cereal bar. The dress shot is such a classic, standard shot and it was so much fun to see a gorgeous Christian Siriano dress hanging in front of a wall of cereal.
