The Millstone at Adams Pond Wedding Photos
Kristen & Drew

One of my favorite wedding venues in Columbia, South Carolina is The Millstone at Adam’s Pond, and I am excited to share with you today Kristen And Drew’s Millstone at Adams Pond wedding photos! These two incredible people were married earlier this year on a beautiful fall day, and their connection and love is so evident in all of these images!! a

You may recognize Kristin and Drew from their Main Street Public House surprise proposal and Soda City engagement session I photographed last year if you’ve been following my blog for a while. I have joined these two you throughout their wedding experience, from proposal to their engagement to their wedding! It has been such a joy to join them on this journey, and I truly feel so honored to have been able to document their moments.

I hope you enjoy walking through Kristen and Drew’s Millstone at Adams Pond wedding photos with me today. Let’s begin!

Details & Preparation

Both Kristen and Drew prepared for their wedding day surrounded by only their closest friends and a few family members. Both of them had their parents join them during the getting ready process, and it was so sweet to witness the emotion between them and those closest to them. Kristin’s mom helped her into her gown, while Drew’s father helped him dress for his wedding day a few rooms away.

Kristen gifted Drew a pair of cufflinks and a tie clip that help the lyrics to their first dance’s song! They were such a sweet, personal addition to his wedding day attire. I love personal things like this on wedding days, friends! It makes these detail photos of their attire and accessories mean just that much more.

Beautiful Fall Wedding

While we were photographing the bride and groom separately with their wedding party members, South Carolina weather decided to throw us a bit of a curveball (as it usually does!). There were a few sprinkles and showers throughout the wedding day, but the couple did not let that dampen in their spirits!  I absolutely loved the color scheme that Kristin and Drew chose for their fall wedding; all of the deep red’s, oranges, and yellows in their florals made everything just pop!

Back-to-Back Gift Exchange

The couple decided to exchange gifts on their wedding day without seeing each other, and my team and I set up a back-to-back gift exchange. They both wrote each other letters and read those together after exchanging their gifts. Drew absolutely loved his custom lyric filled cufflinks, and Kristen immediately put on the bracelet Drew gifted her.

Their Rainy Ceremony

Then it was time for their ceremony! Like I said before, the South Carolina weather threw us a few curveballs on their day, and it even begin to sprinkle lightly during their ceremony. That did not stop this couple from going through with their dream day, and it was beautiful to see a quick shower wash over the ceremony. Almost as if the couple were washed and renewed by the rain right before their vows. Everyone always says that if it rains on your wedding day that it’s good luck, right? I truly believe that was true for Kristin and Drew’s day, as they did not let the rain affect their spirits or their day’s plan. We just worked around it, and everything was flawless despite the showers!

The Almost-First-Kiss

Their ceremony was heartfelt, full of laughs and tears. Drew was so excited to kiss his new wife, that he almost pulled her in before the officiant had give him permission! It was a sweet moment that showed just how giddy and excited this couple was to finally being married!

Finally, MARRIED!! Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Hogan!

Wedding Party Portraits

After their ceremony, we took a quick walk with the couple and their wedding party to visit the pecan tree orchard that sits behind the Millstone at Adams Pond. This portrait location, among so many other things, is why the Millstone as one of my favorite places to photograph weddings here in Columbia! The massive trees, Spanish moss, and endless rolling field perfectly compliment any southern wedding day; we had such a good time photographing the group together here.

Portraits of the Couple

Krysten and Drew shared their first drink together as a married couple right before we begin their portraits together as a couple. I love having my assistant snag a drink for my couples on their wedding day before we begin formal portraits just to give them a break from the rush of their wedding day and a moment to just be married. I love every single one of Kristin and Drew’s portraits together as a couple; I absolutely cannot choose a favorite!

Digging up the Bourbon Bottle

The couple buried a bottle of bourbon a month before their wedding day, and as the Southern tradition goes, dug it up with their wedding party and even drank a sip from the bottle before heading to the reception!

Story behind the Decor

Kristen and Drew chose a unique decorative element for their reception space: pineapples! Here’s a little story from the bride herself about why they use pineapples in their decor and what it means to them as a couple:

“So when I first met Drew, he was wearing an avocado printed hat that looked absolutely hilarious and ridiculous! We then proceeded to talk about his hat, avocados, and eventually figured out that we were both from California. We even grew up only 20 miles apart from each other! We immediately hit it off after learning that, and I knew that he was going to be a special part of my life.

I have actually always just loved pineapples and, really, anything tropical. I love how they taste, cooking with them, and how beautiful they are. Our house is now full of pineapple decorations (still working on getting some avocado decorations, too) !

When we got engaged in April of 2017, we had talked about getting tattoo bands on our left ring finger to celebrate our negative one year anniversary (October 20, 2017). We had talked to a few tattoo artists and found many tattoo shops would not do the tattoo bands because they don’t last well! We were pretty bummed about this news, but then decided to do something more special to us! We eventually fell on the idea of Drew getting a pineapple tattoo and me, Kristen, getting an avocado tattoo. These tattoos would be for the other person, and something that is personal and special to the other. I wanted our table centerpieces to be pineapples, and so Drew decided to have his pineapple tattoo look like what we imagined our wedding centerpieces to look like! And that’s the story behind our love for pineapples and avocados, and why we incorporated them into our wedding day!”

The Reception

Their wedding day was such a blast but honestly, the reception takes the cake with this one! The Root Doctors kept the party going all night long, and it was honestly such a blast! Couple ended their reception under a shower of sparklers and with a kiss. Then they headed back to the party to dance the night away!

A Sparkler Exit

I hope you enjoyed looking through Kristen and Drew’s Millstone at Adams‘s Pond wedding photos! This fall day was everything I could’ve ever asked for as a South Carolina wedding photographer, and I am overjoyed with how the final gallery came together. Be sure to wish the happy couple a congratulations in the comments below if you love their wedding photos!

And to Kristen and Drew, Wow! How is it already over!? I feel like it was just yesterday that I was hiding at a table across from you two as Drew proposed!! It has been such a joy to join you both on this journey, and I am so happy to know that I have gained two lifelong friends to this process. Thank you so much for trusting me with your memories, and I hope to join you for many more as you both navigate this thing called life together. I am so proud of you both, and I absolutely cannot wait to see where you
