The owner of 72 Coffee Company is Brittany Koester, and you might just recognize her if you’ve been following my blog over the past year. I photographed Brittany and her wife’s anniversary portraits last year, and I was so overjoyed when she reached out to me about booking her new mobile bar’s photos!!

I absolutely love working with other small businesses and creating imagery for them to feature on their website, promotional materials, or social media channels. I loved working with Brittany and her wife last year, and I have loved visiting their mobile bar at Soda City in Columbia, South Carolina every Saturday morning. Brittany and Michele serve up some of the tastiest coffee you can imagine, and I am so excited for them to be finally opening their new mobile bar up to couples planning their wedding days and other various events.

We met up on an early morning this summer at the Millstone at Adams Pond to photograph 72 Coffee Company’s branding photos. Brittany has graciously answered a few questions about her business and what she offers for her clients for you today. My name is Brittany, and I am from Summerville, SC. I moved to Columbia to attend college at Columbia College and have basically lived here ever since! My wife and I live in Rosewood with our “children” – our two cats, Hushpuppy and Pancake, and our dog Cola. We love everything about Columbia (hence why we named our dog Cola), and enjoy trying new restaurants, supporting Gamecock athletics, and hanging out with our niece and twin nephews. I opened 72 Coffee Company in September 2017, and I have enjoyed meeting so many awesome people!

In January 2017 I lost my mom to cancer. It was a long battle, and I took care of her until the very end. It was a very traumatic experience for me and after she passed away, I felt like everything in my life had changed. After that experience, there was no way I could continue to work the same job and pretend like things were the same. It’s so cliche, but I realized life was too short not to do something I loved. For me, coffee has always been the best part of my day. I live for the moment that I can enjoy a cup of coffee, and it seems as if everything slows down with a cup of a good brew in hand. It provides me time to reflect.
I decided I wanted to share my love of coffee with the people of Columbia, so in the summer of 2017 I quit my job, and opened 72 Coffee Company. We started as a mobile coffee shop, but I quickly learned I love connecting with people at events and decided to expand our offerings to include handcrafted cocktails, beer, and wine. In July 2018, we launched our renovated camper bar, and I am so excited! I really love helping my clients create an awesome experience for their guests at their wedding or event.

We are a mobile bar service that offers coffee/espresso beverages, handcrafted cocktails, beer, and wine. We aren’t just a typical bar service, and provide an event experience unlike any other in the Columbia area. We serve out of a renovated 1972 camper, and it is the perfect compliment to any wedding or event.

We started as a mobile coffee bar, and our name has “coffee” in it, so many people assume that we only offer coffee service. Although we absolutely love working events in which we only provide coffee service for our clients, we are a complete mobile bar and can also serve cocktails, beer, and wine.

Weddings can be very stressful and they require a lot of planning. I would encourage couples to find vendors that are a compliment to the experience they want to provide, and allow those vendors to handle the details and alleviate some of the stress involved. Your wedding day should be one of the most exciting days of your life, and trusting your vendors will allow you to enjoy the day! The reception is the fun part of the wedding, and our goal is to make sure you and your guests have an amazing time.

This business allows me to be creative. Whether it’s creating new cocktails, event experiences, or promotions, I love the freedom to create something new for our clients.

Our ultimate goal is to hire teachers to serve as our bartenders/baristas! I’m a huge supporter of public education, and I’ve found that teachers are some of the most hardworking, friendly people, and are able to multitask better than most! So, don’t be surprised if you find an educator serving your cocktail at your wedding. :)
