I am so excited to share with you Shelley and Dru’s Columbia South Carolina engagement photos on the South Carolina Statehouse Grounds. This lovely couple is getting married in the fall this year, and I cannot wait to capture their big day!
We met up to explore the grounds of the Statehouse for a few beautiful portraits at sunset. Today I’ll let the bride, Shelley, tell you about how she and Dru met through these Columbia South Carolina engagement photos. How did you start dating?
We met at Myrtle Beach for the first time through mutual friends. I knew when I first saw him that I loved him. I never believed in love at first sight until I met him. But it’s just like they say, it only takes one time. A couple of years later, after much turmoil in our other relationships, Dru randomly texted me “good morning, beautiful,” one morning.
I was at home for the summer in Lancaster, and he was still in Columbia, about an hour and a half drive. He drove all the way to Lancaster just to take me out. One night, we went to this tiny little hole in the wall restaurant we both loved called “Grinders.” He told me he had finally come to his senses and that he wanted to give us a try. And the rest, I guess you could say, is history.
The proposal story
Dru and I go to the state fair every year in October, either with friends, by ourselves, or with my Dad and his family. This year was extra special because, at the top of the Ferris wheel overlooking Columbia, he got down on one knee in a little pod and asked me to be his wife. It was so sentimental to me, and I’ll never forget that night.
What are you most excited about for your wedding?
1. Getting to profess our love for one another in front of our family and friends.
2. Going on a honeymoon.
3. Starting a new chapter together as husband and wife.

The Moment They Knew They Were in Love
We were driving down a road in Myrtle Beach, SC when Dru took my hand said, “Hey, can I tell you something?”
He asked if it was too soon for him to be in love with me. I almost started crying, because I had been waiting four long years to hear those words come out of his mouth. I told him that it was never too soon because I was in love with him too. It’s one of my favorite memories of us.
What do you love to do together?
We love watching new shows on Netflix, cooking, taking trips, and taking our dog, Phoebe, for walks together. We’re also board game FANATICS (the old ones like Scrabble, Monopoly, Guess Who, and Clue)!
