Intimate Los Angeles Wedding Photos
Phil & Katie

Every once in a while you’ll find yourself on a wedding day where things do not go as originally planned, but everything seems quite literally perfect anyway. Phil and Katie‘s intimate Los Angeles wedding is the perfect example of a day like that. I am so honored to be sharing with you their moments and memories from this rainy intimate Los Angeles wedding today! I hope you enjoy hearing more about how their day unfolded and seeing their memories come to life via these rainy LA wedding photos…

Intimate Los Angeles Wedding

Katie and Phil hosted an intimate Los Angeles wedding at the close friend’s private home in West Hollywood. They invited only 40 of the people closest to them in the world to share in their celebration, and the couple opted to not have wedding party members to ensure that their day was completely focused on them and their union. Most of their wedding guests traveled from across the States to join them in Los Angeles for their day, and I absolutely adored how the combination of not having a wedding party and most of their guests traveling in for the wedding kept the entire day focused on why everyone was there: to celebrate Katie and Phil.

 Rainy Los Angeles Wedding Day

Now, I don’t know about you, but every time that I have ever heard anyone talk about California and, Los Angeles in particular, they always mention how it NEVER rains. So, you can imagine my surprise when visiting California and LA for the first time earlier this year to photograph Katie and Phil‘s wedding when the forecast called for rain and 45° temperatures the entire weekend! Thankfully, it rains on wedding days here in South Carolina all the time, so my team and I were ready for all of the complications rain on a wedding day brings. Though the rain was out of the ordinary for the area, I can’t help but think that it added to the sweetness and intimacy of Katie and Phil’s day to be honest with you. The weather forced everyone on their day to stay a bit closer and isn’t that what wedding days are about anyways?

Preparation & the First Look

The couple prepared for their day together in a room above where their ceremony was held. One of my very favorite things about working with Katie and Phil throughout their wedding experience is their willingness to toss tradition to the side and focus on what felt right for them. They revised their wedding day timeline side by side based on the weather moments before Katie slipped into her gown and opted for a quick First Look on the front steps of the house!

Portraits at Wattles Mansion and Gardens

After their first look, the rain paused for a few minutes and we hopped in the car for a quick drive to Wattles Mansion and Gardens for more portraits of the couple together. Phil suggested this location the day before the wedding while he and I were troubleshooting the day’s plans due to the rain. After seeing the Wattles Mansion for the first time, I quickly fell in love with the look of the building and it’s gorgeous overlook into Hollywood. It was the perfect place to spend a few quality moments with Katie and Phil for their Los Angeles wedding photos before their ceremony.

The Way He Looks at Her

I’m not sure I could actually choose a favorite of these portraits of them together, though. Katie and Phil photograph together so naturally, and I love so many of these photos.  Phil will swear to you that he isn’t very photogenic and hates taking photos, but honestly can you even tell in these? His natural smile and the way that he looks at Katie definitely shines through in every frame! Being in love and full of joy at the prospect of marrying the person you love looks GOOD on anyone, okay?

Intimate Evening Wedding Ceremony

After we finished up their portraits as a couple, it was time for their ceremony. 40 of their closest friends and family assembled in a small room to witness Katie and Phil say their vows to one another. The ceremony was simple and sweet. Katie shed a few tears, and I absolutely love how my second shooter and I were able to capture both sides of their ceremony, from within the home and behind the couple, for a more intimate view of how everything unfolded.

Dinner, Toasts, and The Party

After the ceremony Katie and Phil sat down with all of their guests for a delicious four course meal from one of the best local caterers in Los Angeles. They laughed, drank, and talked with those that they love the most throughout the meal. A few family members and friends gave a great toast or two. Vox DJs got the party started after dinner was served, and the couple danced the night away surrounded by those they love the most!

Intimate Los Angeles Wedding Day

I hope you enjoyed a few of my favorite frames from Katie and Phil’s intimate Los Angeles wedding today. I am so overjoyed with how this day’s images came together, as the weather was definitely a challenge but something that I feel only added to these Los Angeles wedding photos and the couple’s day as a whole. I hope you loved viewing a few of Katie and Phil’s intimate Los Angeles wedding photos and that you leave them a comment of ‘congratulations’ below!

To Katie and Phil, Who would have ever thought that Instagram and an offering of fall mini sessions would have brought us to this place, my friends! I am truly so, so thankful to have been your wedding photographer, to be your friend, and to know you two. You fit each other so well ,and I have no doubts that big things are in both of your futures. Thank you for trusting in myself and my team to fly across the country and document your wedding day!! It means the world to me to have your confidence, and I can’t wait to the next time I get to photograph you two together again. Until then, best wishes and all my love.
